Performance Puppy / Beginner Program

Performance Puppy / Beginner Program

anne-paul Orlando-2011
All of the skills and exercises for competitive obedience are taught in Anne’s Performance Puppy / Beginner Program, using the philosophy that . . .

"Doing it right from the start . . .creates the best results in the end!"

In this program, the skills and exercises for Novice, Open, and Utility are thoroughly taught in a step-by-step manner. The program is designed for puppies, but young adults are welcome too. It is ideal, but not required, that the dog enrolled has no previous training in obedience.

Novice, Open, and Utility skills are all taught together as an integrated program, with skills from all three classes being introduced and developed as soon as the puppies are able to do them. By the end of the program, the dogs know all of the competitive obedience exercises, and they then go directly into Open and Utility Ring Prep. The entire program, teaching all of the Novice, Open, and Utility exercises, takes about a year to complete.

Because this is a year-long program, the opportunity to take it at K9JYM only becomes available once or twice a year. Open & Utility Ring Prep

Open & Utility Ring Prep

Teams that know all of the Open or Utility exercises continue to train in Anne’s Open and Utility “Ring Prep” classes.

Open and Utility Ring Prep classes stimulate both handler and dog to truly think and learn by “getting out of the box” – working on exercises in continuously different ways so that the dog mentally engages in active learning and increases its interest and commitment to work. This resolves the common problem of the dog working by rote, or “auto-pilot,” usually marked by a bored, inattentive attitude easily subject to breakdown in competition. Get your dog out of the box of patterned training and into a state of active participation!

Open and Utility Ring Prep classes offer great opportunities for you to improve your team’s attitude, attention, and accuracy. Learn new and fun ways to practice, proof, and polish obedience exercises in intense but fun sessions.

PREREQUISITES:  At each level, your dog must basically know the exercises and be ready to practice them in group situations. Please, no dogs with aggression problems toward people or dogs.

Open & Utility Ring Prep is offered on Wednesday evenings and Thursday
mornings at K9JYM. Contact Anne for details.
