Hilltown Dog Training Club - A K9JYM Guest Program

 

Hilltown Dog Training Club offers ongoing classes on Monday evenings as a guest program at K9JYM. In addition to classes, the club also frequently hosts trials and matches.

Classes & Programs they offer at K9JYM

  • 8-week Puppy AKC S.T.A.R. and Beginners Canine Good Citizen (CGC) classes and testing
  • Novice, Open, and Utility Classes for Competitive Obedience - other Mondays of the month starting at 8pm
  • Hilltown Dog Club members & Drop-ins are welcome for most classes. 
  • Drop-in training costs $10.00
  • CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Tests are held approx. every other month. 
  • Puppy Kindergarten class attendees are eligible for AKC's S.T.A.R. 
  • Puppy certification available at the end of each session.

Puppy K & Beginners CGC

For Puppies & Beginners

Hilltown D.T.C.'s Puppy Kindergarten and Beginners classes are where it all begins. These are 8-week group classes.  Advanced registration is required. No Drop-In's. 

Hilltown D.T.C. Members pay half-price.

Puppy K

Puppy Kindergarten is an eight-week course for puppies up to 9-months (for the larger breeds), and up to 1-year (for the smaller breeds). Class focuses on the basics every puppy should know in order to become a well-mannered adult, and ends with students taking the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test.  All puppies should have minimum their first two-rounds of vaccinations.

Beginners

Beginners is an eight-week class for the older dogs who have not had any prior training, or those coming out of the puppy class.  The class focuses on manners, solving common behavior problems, and teaching the basic obedience skills required for your dog to be a Canine Good Citizen.  Class concludes with students taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.

Competition Obedience

Novice, Open, & Utility For Competition Obedience

Hilltown D.T.C. offers competition obedience classes for Novice, Open, and Utility.  These classes are for members, but non-members may drop-in for $10.00. Classes are taught by Carol McCarthy, who owns a training facility in Bethlehem, PA, and has taken her golden to the OTCH title and is presently training her basset hound.

These classes meet on Monday nights, but does NOT meet on the 1st Monday of the month.

Novice

Novice Class meets at 8:00 PM and is for dogs that are more experienced and have passed a beginners or basic obedience class. 

Open & Utility

Open and Utility Class meets at 8:45 PM and is for dogs that are training for competition, or for those who would like to take their dog to a higher level of obedience.  Most dogs joining this class will have competed in obedience trials, or they are preparing for competition. Members must have taken the 8-week beginner course or some other type of training in order to fit into the Novice Class.

About Hilltown Dog Training Club

Hilltown Dog Training Club offers classes to their members and the public.

Those interested in becoming members can contact any current Hilltown Dog Training Club members or Leslie Adams in order to join. 

Why become a member?

  • Members get to attend all classes without a fee, except for Puppy and Beginner classes.
  • Members can attend Puppy and Beginner classes for half price.
  • Attend club hosts parties, picnics, and other fun dog events. 
  • Members are required to work two projects a year or more for fundraising etc.
